"Stalin's lover" is a song by LorD and Master about a fictional gay love affair between Stalin and a former White Army soldier captured by the Bolshevik Red Army in Petrograd (now St. Petersburg). The song includes a crowd chanting "Josef Stalin" made by Dan layering his own voice, and marching sounds achieved by playing tom-tom drums and stripping off the bass frequencies so that they sounded like boots.

Lyrics

Snow blows across the street
Shady corners, shady men meet
There's me, a fresh-faced lad
Captured in Petrograd
He turned the white snow red
He left so many dead
I could have died
One way or another
But I became
Stalin's lover

Silence is golden and so I held my tongue
Life in the balance, but I was just so young
He had the power; revolution had begun
And I wanted to be the only one

Faces at the meeting place
We're gonna win this race
Dissent met with disgrace
Disappear without a trace
We left no stone unturned
Every cell of resistance burned
Enforce what we have learned
Bourgeois riches returned

I wanted to be the only one
I wanted to be the only one
I wanted to be the only one
I wanted to be the only one

With Lenin gone for good
We always knew he would
Forge a country like he should
That's what we understood
I lay in bed all day
I held military sway
Nadezhda knew anyway
She couldn't tell
She'd never say

I wanted to be the only one
I wanted to be the only one
The only one
