"Hinting at the truth" is a song written in 1998 by LorD and Master. The title is based on a friend who made vague allusions to his true sexuality while denying he was gay, leading to a note of the phrase being made. The lyrics were written about an unfaithful lover who is testing their partner by making small hints of their infidelity, while the other partner (from whose point of view the song is written) is aware of the truth, but doesn't mind so long as they're kept in comfort.
Lyrics
You come back home So late at night I hear your thoughts Filled with sad delight It will take years For me to find the proof But until then you're Hinting at the truth When dawn breaks I get up to see Living in your lies Is living comfortably Searching for clues Will drain away my youth So I ignore you Hinting at the truth With your secret life You can do what you want to do Just bring me home some love And I'll keep loving you With your secret life You can do what you want to do Just bring me home some love And I'll keep loving you
