Substantial artwork

Substantial is the twenty-second original studio album by LorD and Master. Released on 6 August 2021, this album was recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic. The songs are more "meaty" and less "poppy", concentrating largely on more introspective and political subject matter.

Concept

For the album itself, Dan wanted to create a danceable but thoughtful album. Mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic by the British government had very much been an issue. With the album artwork, it was thought that an icon would be used for each release from the project. The "Modus operandi" artwork uses a pound sign to denote money, avarice and late-stag capitalism. The album art itself is a 3D representative of theobromine, a component of chocolate. There's no real reason except that it was aesthetically pleasing and Peter Nugent loves chocolate. The artwork for "Sayonara" was a 3D model of the title in Japanese.
