Comatose artwork

Comatose is the twenty-third original studio album by LorD and Master. Released 3 June 2022, this album is based on the premise that the protagonist of the album's songs is in a comatose state and dreaming vividly.

Concept

Comatose is a concept album with a narrative that starts with the frustration of the protagonist's partner in "Unmoved" and moves onto the hospital treatment in "Trickle down effect". The following songs each examine an aspect of the protagonist's situation with reference to real-world events and self-examination by the artist. In the end of the album, a touching of hands by the protagonist's partner at their bedside (along with the somewhat rough but competent treatment from the hospital staff) brings them out of the coma and they wake to find a world that has changed after five years of being absent, the government in charge of the country has ruined it both socially and economically. Finding this to be the case, the protagonist would rather be in the coma again until this period has passed because it is a waking nightmare.

The stark message of the album is reflected in the seriousness of the design. Almost monochrome, the title is displayed prominently, bright white on a dark gradient grey, virtually an advert for the comatose state, with the artist name as an incidental detail.
